Compliance Sheriff schedule tasks are stopping a few seconds after they are started

Reference: Compliance Sheriff 4.2.x - 4.3.x

Issue:

Scenario 1: When starting the Compliance Sheriff schedule tasks they are stopping after a few seconds.

On the servers running the Controller and Worker role
  1. Open Task Scheduler.
  2. The Compliance Sheriff schedule task are in Ready state.

In Compliance Sheriff 4.2.x The schedule tasks are named HiSoftware HiController Agent and HiSoftware HiWorker Agent.
In Compliance Sheriff 4.3.x The schedule tasks are named Compliance Sheriff ControllerAgent and Compliance Sheriff WorkerAgent.

  1. When starting the Compliance Sheriff schedule tasks they are after a few seconds going back to status Ready.

Scenario 2: Worker and Controller agent logs are showing that Compliance Sheriff is set to offline mode

On the servers running the Controller and Worker role
  1. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Cryptzone\Compliance Sheriff\logs or C:\Program Files (x86)\HiSoftware\Compliance Sheriff\logs depending on your installation
  2. open the file when opening the hicontrolleragent.log and hiworkeragent.log you will at the bottom see the message Cluster is Offline.

 

Cause:

In some rare scenarios Compliance Sheriff will stay in offline mode after an upgrade or will fall back to an offline mode due to an unexpected error.
When this happens the Schedule Tasks will automatically stop and status will report as Ready.


Solution:

On the servers running the Controller role
  1. Navigate to the shared folder \\<ControllerServer name>\HiSoftware\ComplianceSheriff\.
  2. Remove the file named Offline.

On the servers running the Controller and Worker role

  1. Open Task Scheduler.
  2. Restart the 2 Compliance sheriff schedule tasks.
In Compliance Sheriff 4.2.x The schedule tasks are named HiSoftware HiController Agent and HiSoftware HiWorker Agent.
In Compliance Sheriff 4.3.x The schedule tasks are named Compliance Sheriff ControllerAgent and Compliance Sheriff WorkerAgent.
  1. Verify that the schedule tasks are still running after a minute.
