Send Secured button is missing in Outlook

Problem:
The "Send Secured"-button is not visible in Outlook

Solution

Activate the Outlook add-in again if that does not work, go through the extensive guide below:

Summary:

  • Is your license activated? 
  • Make sure the add-in is active in Outlook 
  • Outlook 2007 macro security settings 
  • Runtime error during loading 
  • Unregister, and re-register the DLL

 

Do you have a valid license?
Step 1 in the in the error searching process is to confirm that you have a valid license.

Please do the following to check if you have a valid license:

At the client machine with the error go to bottom left corner of the computer and Press the Start button - All Programs - Cryptzone SEP Client and choose SEP Client Settings.

A new window will appear. (if you are asked to enter the private password please do so). Now click on the Application Settings tab and then click on the License Information tab.

In the middle of the window there is field called License details and below that field all the activated products will be shown. Make sure you have “Secured eMail” or “Secured eMail Reader” and that there is a green text stating the license is valid and active.
It should look like this:

If everything is correct above you have a valid license.Please continue to the next section. If it is not correct you do not have a valid license. Please make sure to correct this.

 

Make sure the add-in is active in Outlook. 

Step 2 in the error searching process is to make sure that Outlook has not disabled the Secured eMail add in. To reactivate Secured eMail, please follow these instructions:

Instructions for Outlook 2000, XP and 2003

1. Start Outlook
2. In the top toolbar please go to Help
3. In the menu please choose “About Microsoft Word”
4. There should be a button called “Disabled item” please click on it
5. A new window will appear and if the Secured eMail application is disabled it should be located there. To reactivate it simply mark Secured eMail and activate it.

Instructions for Outlook 2007

1. Start Outlook
2. In the top toolbar please go to Help
3. In the menu please choose “Disabled Items”
4. A new window will appear and if the Secured eMail application is disabled it should be located there. To reactivate it, simply mark Secured eMail and activate it.

Instructions for Outlook 2010

1. Start Outlook.
2. In the top toolbar please go to File.
3. In the menu please choose “Options”.
4. A new window will appear and please select Add-Ins.
5. Locate the Secured eMail for Outlook Add-in. Check if it is located in Inactive applications or disabled applications.

5.1. If it is located in the Inactive Application Add-ins. To reactivate it, simply press the “Go...” button after manage COM Add-ins. A new window will appear, make sure that the tickbox: Secured eMail for Outlook is checked and its load behavior is: Load on startup. Press OK.

5.2. If it is located in the Disable Application Add-Ins. To reactivate it, simply press the “Go...” button after you selected manage “disabled items”. A new window will appear, make sure that CZ_APP_COM_Outlook_Addin.dll is selected. Press enable and then close.

Outlook 2007 macro Security settings

If you are using Microsoft Outlook 2007 it is possible to activate macro security. If you activate macro security the Secured eMail add-in will be loaded into Outlook.
To confirm that you have the correct settings please follow this guide:

1. Start Microsoft Outlook 2007
2. Click on Tools and then Trust Center... in the top middle of the Outlook window.
3. The Trust Center window will appear please click on the Add-ins tab.
4. To make sure that the Secured eMail add-in is loaded please make sure that the tickbox “Apply macro security settings to installed add-ins” is not applied. This means that the setting should look like in the picture below.

If the Macro security was activated you will need to deactivate the setting and then activate the Secured eMail add-in. Please follow the instructions below to activate the Secured eMail add-in.
1. Make sure you have the Trust Center open like in the picture above.
2. In the bottom of the window make sure the drop down menu have COM Add-ins selected and press the Go... button.
3. A new window will appear. Find the add-in Secured eMail for Outlook and make sure it is activated like in the picture below.

4. When you are done click OK.
5. Close all windows and restart Outlook to activate the Secured eMail add-in

Runtime error during loading in Outlook
At some very rare occasion Outlook may get a runtime error when it is trying to load the Cryptzone Secured eMail add in for Outlook. The result will be that the Send secured button is not available and even though you have gone through all the steps above nothing have worked.
The reason for this runtime error can be many but the most common reasons are either that your version of Outlook has been upgraded several times or that software you have installed have affected your system in a bad way. To see if you have this issue in Outlook 2007 (it is not possible to see the error in earlier versions of Outlook) please follow the instructions below.
1. Start Microsoft Outlook 2007
2. Click on Tools and then Trust Center... in the top middle of the Outlook window.
3. The Trust Center window will appear please click on the Add-ins tab.
4. In the bottom of the window make sure the drop down menu have COM Add-ins selected and press the Go... button.
5. A new window will appear. Find the add-in Secured eMail for Outlook and mark it.
6. When you have marked it you can read the load behavior. If it says Not loaded. A runtime error occurred... you know you have the issue in this section. Please see the picture below as an example.

To see if you have this issue in Outlook 2010.
1. Start Microsoft Outlook 2010
2. Click on the File tab and then options. A new window will appear.
3. The Trust Center window will appear, please click on Add-ins.
4. Select manage “COM Add-ins” in the drop down menu, and press the Go... button.
5. A new window will appear. Find the add-in Secured eMail for Outlook and mark it.
6. When you have marked it you can read the load behavior. If it says Not loaded. A runtime error occurred... you know you have the issue in this section. Please see the picture above as an example.
To solve this problem you will need to update the mapi32.dll file and Microsoft have released a solution for this. Please go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813602 and follow the instructions.

Unregister, and re-register the DLL from commandline
If you still have issues, there have been some rare cases where the DLL for the addin is not properly registered.

1. Open up a command prompt as an administrator
2. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\SEP
Client\Win32\Clients\Outlook\CZ_APP_COM_Outlook_Addin.dll
3. Run the following command -> regsvr32.exe /u CZ_APP_COM_Outlook_Addin.dll
4. Run the following command -> regsvr32.exe CZ_APP_COM_Outlook_Addin.dll

Summary :

  • Is your license activated? 
  • Make sure the add-in is active in Outlook 
  • Outlook 2007 macro security settings 
  • Runtime error during loading 
  • Unregister, and re-register the DLL
